Press Trust was formed in 1982 by the first Head of State of Malawi, the late Dr H. Kamuzu Banda, with the aim of providing charitable donations which are in the interest and for the benefit of the people of Malawi including the advancement of their education, health, social welfare and housing. These are the national benefit purposes and are the key priority funding areas of Press Trust;
In addition, the Trust has over the years funded projects in the following additional sectors; sports, culture, scientific research, disaster relief and environmental conservation;
The Trust uses a project appraisal system which was developed from systems in use and proven elsewhere in the world and a consensus Board approval method which is as fair and unbiased as is humanly possible. The Trust is proud to comply with the established norms of transparency and accountability in all areas of its endeavours.
